President/CEO of Roz Stevenson Public Relations in Los Angeles, has over 20 years experience in entertainment publicity. Her firm specializes in motion picture publicity and promotions targeting the African-American market. The company, which began in June 2000 with Universal Pictures as its main client, has made a positive impact on numerous film releases.
Prior to opening her own firm, Stevenson served as a senior publicist at Universal Pictures for twelve years, responsible for national and local TV, radio publicity and African-American campaigns for all motion picture releases. In that position she organized media participation at world premieres, special events and press junkets. She also coordinated behind-the-scenes TV specials on E! Entertainment Television, BET, MTV, VH1, Discovery Channel and Sci-fi Channel. She also arranged appearances and interviews with stars and filmmakers on many shows, such shows as “Entertainment Tonight,” “Access Hollywood,” “E! Entertainment,” “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” and “The Tonight Show.” She wrote press releases, feature stories and provided art to fast-breaking African American and Asian American press. Additionally, she oversaw the Hispanic campaigns nationwide.
While at Universal she worked on successful campaigns, including Erin Brockovich, U-571, The Hurricane, The Best Man, Bowfinger, The Mummy, Life, Patch Adams, One True Thing, Meet Joe Black, Out of Sight. Other memorable campaigns over the years have included The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Liar Liar, The Nutty Professor, Apollo 13, Babe, Casino, Dragonheart, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Jungle Fever, Scent of a Woman, Do the Right Thing and many more.
In 1988 Stevenson served as the head of publicity for Motown Record Corporation, as well as for Motown Productions’ highly acclaimed television mini-series, Lonesome Dove. In 1989 she returned to Universal Pictures to work as the publicity project director for the Bill Cosby film, Ghost Dad.
Stevenson began her career in publicity as assistant to the Director of National Publicity at MGM in 1980. Through the studio’s Career Opportunity Educational Program, she attended UCLA Extension and received a public relations designation. After completing the program she became a member of MGM’s management team.
From 1975-78 she served as a script consultant for Norman Lear’s Minority Comedy Writing Program. She also worked as assistant to the producers of Good Times for four seasons. Additionally, Stevenson earned writing credits for several teleplays for Good Times and The Jeffersons.
